We should all use green energy, as much as possible, to protect the environment. There are a wide variety of green energy technologies available that provide power from sustainable resources. So the question is, what exactly can you do to green up your life? Continue reading and you just might find out.

You can make a difference and save energy simply by taking steps to use less energy every day. Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. Turn off the lights and TV when not in the room. This may be a simple tip, but it does save you money.

Instead of using A/C in the summer, wear natural fabrics. Fabrics, such as cotton, draw moisture naturally from the skin, making it cooler. Choose lighter colors so that you feel cooler and can resist turning up the air conditioning.

Use windows covering for when you’re not home. Heavy drapes help keep you home cool, resulting in energy savings. Typically, windows that face south are positioned so that they receive the most sun. Make sure that all the windows are covered with dark curtains, blinds, roman shades, or whatever shade you choose.

Replace your water heater and get a tankless model. Tankless water heaters do require energy for operation, but since they heat water on demand, power is not wasted by keeping a full tank hot 24/7. There are tankless heaters designed to not only provide one area with hot water, but also to heat entire houses.

Make use of energy-efficient products to save both money and energy. Examples of these include windows, light bulbs, and appliances, all of which have been designed to run efficiently on reduced energy. With these products, cooling and heating costs are decreased.

Try not putting the temperature up too much, as it may be unnecessary. Wear sweatpants and a sweater if you are chilly. When heat is raised to a higher level you end up using a lot of energy you didn’t really need to use.

Closely monitor how many watts you are using. There are many items on the market you can buy to track your energy use, such as the Kill-a-Watt. You can plug in various devices into these devices and see how much energy that item uses for periods of time including a hour, month, and even a year. With that information, you will be able to calculate how much that appliance costs to operate.

In today’s world of high energy coats and environmental worries, “going green” is more important than ever. While there’s no power source that doesn’t impact the environment in some way, with green energy, we can minimize the impact that it does have. After reading this article, you can go green!
